This is the nearest shed to the tip of Cape York set up to serve five communities in the NPA Council area. The local population is mainly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

The Shed was opened by the Federal Minister Hon Jenny Macklin in October 2011. It represents the successful collaboration of the three levels of government and the local community.

Mensheds Australia has coordinated the resources of many partners to provide a shed in New Mapoon that will service men in five local communities. It is a place for the men to meet and a place to undertake activities.  Those activities will add to the employment opportunites over time as the shed identifies activities that can be undertaken that serve the local community and replace imports.

The shed has a full-time coordinator Jessie Sagaukaz.  He has worked with Mensheds Australia and the local community to establish the shed.  Although it is small, it will grow as new activities are developed and resources are attracted.

In November, two members from the Armidale Shed visited to begin the process of building things including picnic tables and toys as shown. It is expected that there will be many visitors and men's shed members visiting Cape York can expect to be welcome at the shed in between their fishing activities!
